Cars 2 & Ice cream

I am not a fan of the movie theaters. Thankfully, I married someone who agrees with me. The concept of paying over $8.00 a ticket for a two hour movie is so ridiculous. Of course, unless it's part of the Twilight saga ;-) There was a livingsocial deal that included 2 movie tickets for $9.00. This was such a deal and we were so excited because Ty has been talking about wanting to watch Cars 2. He actually didn't know what Cars was and had never seen the first one but loved the commercials. I have been secretly loving his obsession with Cars because Cars was mine and Tyler's first date movie. It was actually with my little sister as well because my mom thought it would be fun to have my sister tag along with us. Lovely, right? Crazy how I saw it with my hubby and five years later we take our son to the movie theater to watch Cars 2!

Unfortunately, he didn't love the movie quite as well as we thought he would. He was more interested in playing with his cars he got from gamma than watch the movie. It was almost a 2 hr movie and he was pretty good for about an hour and 15 min of it. Not that bad

Ty and his "Wild 'n Reckless" ice cream :)

After, we went to Baskin Robbin's because Tyler wasn't craving frozen yogurt. It was such a treat and very affordable. $4.00 for the 3 of us? Not a bad deal!

Daddy's little helper

So Saturday night we went to Lowe's because we have had a strange mildew smell in our house. At first, we thought there was a leak in the toilet. There was, however it wasn't the main smell. We paid a plumber $100 to fix the leak in the toilet and we figured it would stop. Apparently, that wasn't the ONLY leak we had. The smell has been pretty bad. I would smell it all. the. time. It was driving me crazy. I decided to empty out our hall closet and air it out and spray vinegar and bleach on different areas. That still didn't seem to help. After opening up the closet that holds our water heater we noticed there was a leak there. When we first bought the house we had to replace the water heater and $600 later the leak in there stopped. But apparently, we never put an expansion tank so it was leaking underneath our house. So back to my story, we bought the tank and put it up last night. It took Tyler 2.5 seconds to figure it out and he put it together that night. Man, my husband is such a smarty. I love my husband. He drives me crazy but then there are times where I stand back and truly admire this amazing man who is so intelligent and can fix all of our problems himself. He saves us so much money by getting dirty and doing it himself.

Now that I bragged a little I can explain what happened after. While at Lowe's he decided to wanted to get a "fancy" tub stopper. We bought it and tried last night to put it together. Long story short, he ended up breaking a part and it fell underneath our house. We couldn't use our shower and we had to wait until morning to fix it. It took what it felt like all day Sunday trying to get the piece and solder it together. It wouldn't fit then we had to take apart the closet and go back under the house. It was a diaster!!! However, after fixing everything we enjoyed a BBQ dinner at home and ate some ice cream on our patio swing. It was an amazing end to a hectic and crazy day!

Of course, Bella and Ty are right there to help Daddy

Father's Day!

Father's Day this year was soo fun! Ty was SO into it!!!!! He woke up with me extra early to prepare Dad's yummy breakfast. Ty was a little upset because he thought he wouldn't be getting breakfast because he wasn't a daddy. I assured him, we would still feed him. We had such a fun day pampering daddy which included napping, not dealing with whining or cleaning. I even put the garbage out for him so he could relax. It was such a fun day and I am so glad I have such an amazing husband and father for our son!

Salad, rice, potato salad & steak (which I got 50% off)
Pizza and Orange soda for lunch

Daddy and Ty on our way to church! Check out Daddy's tie ;-) pics of ty!

Ty got Daddy a book which DADDY loved! Daddy puts Ty to sleep every night so I got him a book that they can share together :)

Breakfast! Bacon, fruit, lime ade and raspberry, blueberry and blackberry waffles with whipped cream and strawberries! He loved it!! He went to church VERY happy!

Father's Day Weekend Celebration

We were fortunate enough to have the Garza Family over for a BBQ and overnighter this weekend. Tyler met him at Sears and we have always tried to hang out but things always seem to get in the way. Their oldest son, Joseph was playing in a tournament this weekend so we figured they stay at our house! They are 3 very cute boys and Ty loved each one of them! Everyone behaved and played very nicely. It was such a fun visit!

I made Spicy Mexican corn, Asian BBQ chicken, potato salad, and Cesar salad.

Cute things Ty says

At the gym, there is a woman who is pregnant that Ty just loves, which is why I think he has been bringing this up! For the past few days he has been telling me he needs a baby. So very innocently, I have been explaining that Mommy's have babies in their tummy not little boys. He is a little upset that he is unable to have a baby in his tummy but is slowly starting to understand.

Today this is how our conversation went.

Ty: " MOMMY, you FORGOT!!!!" Then he starts to panic and whimper.

I asked him what I forgot and he says, " You forgot to make me a baby for me to play with." I told him Mommy and Daddy haven't made a baby yet. He then says, "Will you share the baby with me?"

Me: " Yes, Tyler it will be your brother or sister. "

Ty: " My baby brother misses me Mommy, please get him."

It was the absolute cutest thing ever!! He is dead set on having a brother and that this "brother" misses him. It cracks me up.. I love this little guy :)

New happenings with our house

My in-laws have an amazing garden. Their passion for their garden is so amazing and definitely contagious! We decided we wanted to emulate them and start our own garden, which I have previously blogged about. We decided we wanted to put our garden on the side yard because it gets the best sun and probably the in need of the most attention. The side consists of dead grass, ugly trees, and basically a bunch of junk. So, we decided to clear that out and (eventually) put 3 raised garden beds. I have been looking through craiglist for wine barrels that we could buy and put our fruits, vegetables, and herbs in them. My in-laws have wine barrels and they hold a large amount and look VERY nice. However, when price checking them they would cost a lot more than we could afford.

So we decided to check out Lowe's for ideas on different ways we could make affordable raised beds. We found all the materials we needed and everything was less than $15 dollars! I think it turned out really cute and we want to eventually make 2 more!

I have also been looking for a new desk. Craigslist once again hooked me up. I guess, it's not really craigslist I should thank but all of the wonderful people who donate things to young families like us :) We were able to score this wonderful desk which is exactly what I have been looking for. As a look around at our furniture I swear everything we have is second half. Our couch, dining table, patio swing, patio chairs and table, desk(now),our old desk, guest bed (my old bed), Ty's bed, dressers, lamps. I love it. :) One day, we will be able to buy our stuff brand new, but for now, owning our own house and being able to live off one income is worth getting second hand stuff :)

**************************************************************************

And our family wanted to wish our Scot a very Happy Birthday :) Scot, you are the very best father in law, step father, and gampa we could ask for. We love you and appreciate all you do for our family. You always have a smile on your face and your happiness is infectious! Thanks for being an amazing guy and we hope you had an amazing day!! Love you so much!!!

New Patio Swing (not brand new, just new to us)

We have this gorgeous, large backyard with not too much in it. We have so many ideas of what we eventually want but unfortunately, all of that costs lots of money! We decided we wanted to add a cute patio set first and then we will work our way out. Of course, all of the sets I like are super expensive so I scaled that idea down to checking out craigslist. While searching, I looked through the free section of craigslist and found a really cute patio swing. I emailed as soon as I found it which was lucky for me because the poster had just posted it 30 minutes prior. I received a instant response saying it was available and I could pick it up now as long as I had someone to help me. It was in a neighboring town and the house was 10 minutes from us and I was hoping Tyler would get off early. I had emailed the poster back saying my husband would be off in a few hours and we could get it then. He responded saying he couldn't hold it and it was first come first serve.

I was bummed because Tyler wouldn't be off till after 5 and started dinner and forgot about it. Tyler got off at 5:15 and I emailed the guy and he said it was still available and I could come get it! I was soo excited so we packed the car up and drove to go get it. It wasn't in the best shape. The seat was torn and the canopy was majorly weathered. But I took it cause it was FREE and I would have a project for the next day. So we packed it up and set it up that night. I was so proud of our new free addition we got for our backyard. I was able to sew the seat so it looks good as new. I sprayed with air freshener, sanitized, and vacuumed the seat which got dirty 2.5 seconds after I cleaned it when Ty climbed on it. But, I am so proud of it and have plans to eventually change out the seat cushion and use different fabric.

(The left side was already pinned when I took the picture. Sorry, I wasn't going to unpin it. Just imagine the rip covered the entire bottom part)

Stay at Home Mom's
by Jennifer Johnson

A man came home from work and found his three children outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn all around the front yard. The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door to the house and there was no sign of the dog. Proceeding into the entry, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded against one wall. In the front room the TV was loudly blaring a Cartoon channel, and the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing. In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door. He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she might be ill, or that something serious had happened. He was met with a small trickle of water as it made its way out the bathroom door. As he peered inside he found wet towels, scummy soap and more toys strewn over the floor. Miles of toilet paper lay in a heap and toothpaste had been smeared over the mirror and walls. As he rushed to the bedroom, he found his wife still curled up in the bed in her pajamas, reading a novel. She looked up at him, smiled, and asked how his day went. He looked at her bewildered and asked, 'What happened here today?' She again smiled and answered, 'You know every day when you come home from work and you ask me what in the world do I do all day?' 'Yes,' was his incredulous reply. She answered, 'Well, today I didn't do it.

Cute things Ty says

I just dropped my water bottle on the floor and he instantly picks it up and I say, "Thanks babe" which then he replies, "I not babe... I Tyler. Daddy is babe"

This little boy always makes me smile!

Return of "Blankie"

I honestly do not know when the obsession with "blankie" began. However, I do know that it is in fact, a girl and that it misses Ty if Ty doesn't have it AT ALL times! "Blankie" is not a blanket, it is a fitted sheet. I actually don't mind this obsession too much because this was the first thing I bought him when we found out we were having a boy. I went to Ross and bought a crib set for $40 which included the fitted sheet. We take blankie to church, grocery shopping, outside to play, appointments, gamma's house, basically everywhere. So, Saturday was no exception.

Tyler wanted to go look at dogs at the shelter about 15 minutes from our house. So after he got off work we packed up the car and drove to the animal shelter. Daddy was ordered to carry blankie while Ty wanted to look at the animals. We looked around and left 10 minutes later. Tyler then wanted to drive 40 minutes, where his mom lives to see a shelter there. I objected because I wasn't in the mood but Tyler persisted and we drove anyways. We drove to the area where they were having the dog fair and what do you know... it was canceled because of the rain. Yup, we wasted ALL that gas and time to drive to an event that was canceled. I was tired and hungry so we decided to get some food. We ate a yummy dinner then left the restaurant and packed Ty in the car. It was then, that Ty asked where "blankie" was. I looked in the car and my purse and it was no where to be found. My first thought was that we left it in the restaurant and I told Tyler to run in and go check around. He checked, came back 2.5 seconds later and said it wasn't in there. I was frantic. This little boy is totally in love with it and my heart broke. I start freaking out but trying to act calm so he didn't start freaking out. I reassured him we would find it which calmed him down but inside I realized my reassurance might not help.

At that moment, Tyler tells me he left it at the shelter. He said he must of dropped it when he was looking at one of the dogs. So we drive back to the shelter and luckily people were still in there so I ran inside and asked about if they had seen a blanket--I mean fitted sheet. I run around and they show me their laundry section and it's not in there. They said I could check the kennels for the dogs and it's not in there. Tyler was checking garbage's outside and in the grass area and we still couldn't find it. My heart sank. And that's when Ty lost it. He kept asking where she was and how she was missing him. And how she was oh so lonely. It broke my heart! I kept praying that we would find it or that Ty wouldn't freak out. I think I prayed harder than I ever had in my life.

That's when the weirdest prompting came to me to call the restaurant. So I did. And the man said it was there!! He said they found it after we left and didn't throw it away because they thought it was important because why else would someone bring a fitted sheet to a restaurant.
So we drove an hour back to the restaurant and Ty got his "blankie." He was beyond thrilled and just hugged and kissed it. Tyler and I felt so awful so we treated him to frozen yogurt. :)

Man, the things you do for your kids!

Tomatoes

One of my most favorite parts of summer is having a garden. We didn't have good sun at our last place and this was definitely not an issue with this house. We have so many areas of sun where we can plant tons of things! When we moved in we found out we had an apple tree, lemon tree and orange tree. So far, we have planted tomatoes, cantaloupe, green & red bell peppers, jalapenos, and habaneros. I want to plant blueberries, strawberries, and watermelon. We'll see. :)

This was the first tomato I found but now we have a bunch more :) I cannot wait to eat some fresh fruits, veggies and peppers :) Yum!!

1sr overnighter in our house:)

Last weekend my little brother and sister came over for the weekend. This was Ty's first sleepover in our new home and it was such a nice visit. I love having a backyard because the boys were able to run around and explore for the most of the overnight. They are 1 year apart and act more like brothers than uncle/nephew. We are very fortunate to have family that lives close to us because Ty will be able to grow up and be very close to his family.
