"Enjoy the time with your children because it truly goes so fast." I don't think I ever really understood that until celebrating Ty's 5th Birthday. 5 years ago, our lives changed for the better. I can still remember standing in the bathroom staring at a positive pregnancy test. I remember the fear, anxiety, hope and rush of every emotion you could experience. I also knew at that very moment I was in love with someone I never met. I knew I wanted what was best for him or her. I wanted them to grow up healthy, smart and happy.
At the tender age of 19, I knew that the odds were against us. I knew at that time all I could provide was a small temporary home for 9 months and after that I needed to be the mother that he deserved. While I was pregnant, I worked two jobs to not only support myself but our future child. Tyler found a job earning $7.50 an hour putting sale signs up at a retail store. He would wake up early in the morning, get dressed and rush off to work. Later in my pregnancy he worked nights by stuffing paychecks in envelopes and preparing them for shipping. We worked our butt off while anticipating the birth of our child.
On April 25th, 2008 at 1 am, my water broke and we rushed to the hospital. After a hard and painful labor Ty was born via emergency C-section on April 26th at 3:44 am. The moment I laid eyes on him I knew he would always have my heart. For this was the child that we sacrificed and worked hard for, to ensure that we were the parents he deserved to have. Ty made us grow up fast but he also gave us the best purpose and reason for life.
The first year was hard... really hard. Not only were we getting use to being married and living together but caring for a tiny baby who was completely dependent on us. We never would have survived our first year if it wasn't for the help of our families. From moral support to feeding us so we didn't eat the same thing over and over again. I look back at that time and realize how lucky we were for the people that were in our lives. We could never repay our families for everything they did but we are forever indebted to them.
Tyler Daniel has the most caring heart of anyone I know. Anytime someone is hurt or sad he always tries to cheer them up. He has a heart of gold! He loves to learn, enjoys reading/writing and going to school. He is shy at times and reserved. It will take him a few minutes to get comfortable with his surroundings but once he is comfortable he is the biggest joy to be around. He loves to talk and ask questions. He is cautious and rarely does anything that could be dangerous (unless he is with with his uncle). Ty loves saying jokes especially knock knock jokes. He doesn't really understand what they are but after he says them he starts laughing hysterically and it's hard not to laugh just because of how excited he gets.
At 5 years old, Ty is OBSESSED with Star Wars and Jake and the Neverland Pirates. He is also in the stage where he HATES chicken. He LOVES when I make Spanish rice, it is his most requested side dish. He loves vegetables such as broccoli, zucchini and carrots. He also loves to eat fruit! We have a fruit bowl on our counter and it is constantly getting refilled because he loves to snack on fruit. His favorite fast food would be McDonalds and he loves to get a Happy Meal. We only go to McDonalds when we visit my grandma once a month and he really enjoys those trips. Ty is IN LOVE with Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift. He thinks they are so beautiful and loves to sing their songs. He is very good at listening to the radio and singing along with the words!
He loves to say prayers. He knows that he can speak to our Heavenly Father and loves to pray for our families. Most importantly, Ty loves his sister. He also predicted that we would have a little girl and always said how excited he was that his little sister would play with him again. The two of them are very close and I hope it continues to stay that way. I am so thankful for the biggest surprise I ever received. I am thankful for the sweet little boy who charmed his way into everyone's heart with his sweet smile and spirit!

Happy 5th Birthday to my baby boy. May you always know how much you are loved!
