Ty's 1st Day of School

Today was such a bittersweet day for me.  Ty has grown into a caring and sweet little boy. He is loving, compassionate, cautious and has such a big heart. For the first 4 years of his life he was with me 24/7. During my pregnancy, I always knew I would have to go back to work. I dreaded that day when I received the call that I needed to go back. I went back for two days and I couldn't do it and never went back. I figured after a year I would go back to work and we would find a steady sitter. When he was 9 months, he had a seizure and ended up in the ER. That will probably always be one of the WORST and hardest days of my life. It was that day, that I knew I could not go back to work. It might be selfish. And I know I have gotten flack for it. We have sacrificed and Tyler has worked lots of OT but I am so grateful that we made the right decision for our family.

When Ty was 4 he went to preschool. It was a big step but it was so amazing to watch his personality change for the better. This shy timid little boy turned into an amazing boy. The fact that he was leaving me and starting KIndergarten wasn't affecting me as much as the realization that I no longer have my dependent "little" Ty. He is independent and learning about life all on his own. He is starting his first of many years of school. He is not in "little boy" school but a full fledged kindergartner. He will make new friends, learn about new things and most importantly, become someone that I know I will always be proud of.

I was a wreck this morning. I cried while looking at his 1st day of school outfit he picked out. I cried while packing his lunch. I cried while writing his first note in his lunch bag. I cried when I put his bag in his backpack. I cried while cutting up his fruit for breakfast. He would just look at me and smile and say, "Mom, I'm a big boy now and it's going to be great." I quickly went into my room to get ready and say a quick prayer so I could calm myself down.

Ty was excited.
He was ready.
 He was prepared.
 He was brave.

He was brave enough for the both of us and that was just what I needed. My mom also came the morning of and gave him a sweet little pep talk. It was great to have her here to witness such a memorable day. It meant a lot to him to have her here and it was so helpful for me so I could relax and enjoy the morning.

He will never have a first day of elementary school again and I am so glad that I was able to be apart of it. I was able to witness the happiness on his face as he walked into his classroom and the sheer joy when he walked out at the end of the day. Plus, Daddy was able to get the day off which made the day even more perfect!  I am so lucky to be his mother and he is truly the most amazing boy.

The night before his first day of Kindergarten.
 Ty and Grandma!
She was SO excited for Ty!
 Lining up with his classmates
 Smile Ty!
His teacher wanted the kids to walk and say goodbye to their parents outside the classroom.
 Obviously, I have a problem listening ;-)
So, I had to find his desk!
And where he was keeping his backpack!
Ty is behind the girl with the blue shirt.
 Walking out!
He was SO happy! And in his hand is the shiny new pencil he received from the principal.

He had a great day. He was smiling and can't wait to go back.
